Halloween House

Just a quick preview of what the front of my house looked like before this wicked rain/wind storm rolled in.

I think almost everything is surviving out there other than the spider webs. Although the amount of leaves being blown into them are making them look more authentic.

Hopefully it's all over with by tomorrow and I can fix up the webs. Some of the "police tape" by the front door came off  but I'm actually just using that as a way to discourage kids from using the driveway as a walkway...so I think I will leave it looking...rustic.

We've got a few pumpkins to carve...always messy and fun and then we are all ready for the big night.

I am very excited to take Daphne out. We got her a unicorn costume but *surprise surprise* she wont wear the horn and ears. So I guess her costume this year will be "girl with pink wings and a hat with a bear face"...

Enjoying the fall air.

Banana and cinnamon mug cake. So good!

Tried a really good local beer. Love the label.

Autumn Toddle

It was a crisp yet sunny day yesterday. Perfect for a stroll...or perhaps just a toddle up and down the street. We played with leaves, stick and stumps and tore full speed up everyone's driveway. We spend about 40 minutes running around in the morning and by the time daddy got home she wanted to do it again!

She is just so much fun. She can resist my kisses all she wants...she's getting smooched one way or another!

PUMPKIN INFERNO!!!

Had such a terrific weekend!

Saturday we packed up the little monster and drove the hour and half to Upper Canada Village to check out Pumpkin Inferno.

It takes place at night so we had to leave our house around 5:00pm...Daphne is pretty adaptable so I was hoping it would be worth throwing her schedule off a bit.

It was very neat. Trails through the heritage buildings covered in lit pumpkins. Some areas had themes, like Noah's Arc, Fish of the St Lawrence and the zodiac signs. One of the larger houses had hundreds of pumpkins with spooky faces light up to the tune of "This is Halloween".

All the pumpkins are fake so they can last the season but there are almost 6000 carved pumpkins created by local groups and artists.

It was very busy though. We got there before it opened and we had to wait in line for about 30 minutes. Long wait but by the time we left the line up was all the way into the parking lot. At least double the length we had to wait in.

Daphne slept HARD the whole drive and once we got home we slipped her into her jammies and she was down for the night. Will and I had a warm cup of tea and a relax before we passed out as well.

My Week in Pictures

We love wearing daddy's shoes

Learned how to climb up onto the furniture

Took a drive out to Renfrew

Ever present peanut butter face

My life in one picture - laundry not done, floor messy, toilet paper everywhere, Daphne still in her jam jams

I'm still here *waves*

I'm sure you already saw my mom's post earlier but, if not, we have decided to go back to having our own blogs.

We apparently don't share well...hahaha...no, I think we just have such different blogging styles that neither of us felt comfortable being totally genuine.

Mom will be headed back to ZaZa's Corner and I will remain here.

There will be a name change and a snazzy face-lift in our future but until I have the time it shall remain P&PD.

I hope you continue to enjoy reading both our blogs!

been a good run

So after 10 months of co hosting Prosecco and Polka Dots
Siobhan and I have come to the revelation .... in the space of a few days of each other ... that blogging is best done solo.... at least for us

I want to thank all of you who have followed me from zAzA's Corner, followed P and PD ,or just visited occasionally.
I hope you will come on over to the Corner and visit..
I will be going back to my original Blog zAzA's Corner found at www.readymadecosmos.blogspot.com
Siobhan will continue to blog here at  Prosecco and Polka Dots.

ciao for now

Brown Butter Spice Cookies

While doing my daily morning perusal of Facebook I came across a recipe for
Brown Butter Pumpkin Spice Sugar Cookies
Okay so now I know what my morning is going to include.

Here is the original recipe from Simply Suzanne's at Home.....
And here is my recipe for Pumpkin Spice
4 teaspoons cinnamon
3 teaspoons ginger
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

I found the above recipe calling for 2 cups of brown sugar way over the top.
So I only used 1.
My cookies did not come out flat like the cookies in Suzanne's recipe.
But I like the look of them and they are very yummy.
So I changed the name of mine to Brown Butter Spice Cookies
I think maybe the next time I may add a bit more ginger to my spice
but that is my family ---- we L-O-V-E ginger.....

Happy Thanksgiving from 44

Been fighting some sort of virus this past week.
Nagging headache and all I want to do is sleep.
BUT
It's Thanksgiving weekend here in Canuckville and I gots to do a turkey dinner of some sort with the fixins.
The past couple of years its been just HB and me
Part of our lil family is in the great west the other ..... wants to have the weekend to themselves .. see previous post.....

Our Dinner Menu

I was very excited to have one Butternut squash grow on my huge vine so of course I babied that thing finally bringing it inside and letting it ripen completely on the window sill.

Sage did terrific in the herb garden this year and I had lots for the turkey breast and brown butter sauce with tons left to bring in for Christmas dinner.

I added a few Sedum stocks to the burnt orange mums for the table.

Of course we had to have our Apple Martinis on the deck.
It was a beautiful day ---- sunny and 20C (68F)

Apple tinis
1 ounce vodka
1 ounce Apple Sour Puss
2 ounce apple juice

Shake Shake Shake with lots of ice. Pour into martini glass. CHEERS!

HB made a fabulous Pain Normandie with apples (he will be guest blogging his recipe at a later date)

Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend.....

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Happy Thanksgiving, all!

Had a excellent day with my hubs and our little lady. Had coffee and leisurely breakfast. Naps for all and then a little drive out to Renfrew just to get out of the house.

We passed by Dragonfly, which is a golf course Will had played at before. So we took D out of the car and let her try out the driving range and run around a little. The perfect green fairway popped nicely against the colourful fall trees.

Such a beautiful day for mid October. Sunny and 20 degrees. No need for shoes or sleeves!

Watched the hockey game with a nice glass of red wine and a big turkey dinner.

I'm really not "traditional"...at least that's how I like to describe my complete neutrality about holidays. I don't care much about Easter or Thanksgiving. They are just a reason to get together and eat with family...and we do that once a week anyway. But I will always use Thanksgiving as an excuse to eat turkey. I effing LOOOVE turkey.

I hope you all had a great weekend, whatever you did!
